  1. Each permit holder may only carry one piece of musical instrument or one piece of sports equipment at any one time.
  2. Please use the lift.
  3. Be aware of the top of doorways when boarding and exiting from trains. Take the oversized musical instrument or sports equipment off your shoulders if necessary.
  4. Do not lift up oversized musical instruments or sports equipment to avoid hitting overhanging objects, and potential electrical hazards when you are near high voltage overhead equipment.
  5. Do not block train doorways, passageways inside trains, lift entrances/exits, staircases, entry/exit gates or evacuation paths.
  6. In the event of an evacuation along the track, leave your oversized musical instrument or sports equipment behind in a location that does not block any passageway, such as on top of a seat. Follow instructions and directions from MTR staff or Emergency services personnel.

III. Terms and Conditions of the Permit

  1. The “MTR Carriage of Oversized Musical Instrument and Sports Equipment Permit” (“the Permit”) is issued under the Mass Transit Railway By-laws / Mass Transit Railway (North-West Railway) Bylaw.
  2. The Permit holder must produce the Permit for inspection upon demand by any MTR official. The Permit is non-transferrable.
  3. The Permit is valid only for use by the Permit holder carrying an oversized musical instrument or sports equipment in MTR premises during designated service hours*, with total dimensions (length + width + height) not exceeding 235cm and any one side not exceeding 145cm, including the case or bag, which is outside the current permitted limits of baggage (total dimensions do not exceed 170cm and any one side does not exceed 130cm). The Permit holder cannot carry a musical instrument or sports equipment in MTR premises if any one side exceeds 145cm or the total dimensions exceed 235cm. If a trolley or handcart or similar conveyance is used to carry the oversized musical instrument or sports equipment, this will be included in the total measurement.
*Throughout service hours except for Monday to Friday, 08:15 to 09:15 (non-public holidays), based on entry time into the system.

  4. The Permit will only be valid within the defined period. The Permit will expire if the Corporation decides to withdraw the arrangements for the “MTR Registration Scheme for Carriage of Oversized Musical Instruments and Sports Equipment”. The Corporation reserves the right at any time to cancel the Permit issued to the applicant.
  5. The Corporation will not be liable for any theft, loss or destruction of or damage to any musical instrument or sports equipment or any of its accessories (whether such theft, loss, destruction or damage is caused by the negligence, omission, default or act of the Corporation or any other party or otherwise). The Permit does not exempt the Permit holder from the liability of any injury to others, or destruction or damage to the property of MTR or others, as caused by the oversized musical instrument or sports equipment.
  6. MTR officials have the right to check the oversized musical instrument or sports equipment being carried in MTR premises and request the Permit holder to produce proof of identity to prove that he/she is the Permit holder.
  7. MTR officials reserve the right to refuse the Permit holder the right to carry the oversized musical instrument or sports equipment in MTR premises. The Corporation reserves the right to amend or change these Terms and Conditions as it deems fit.
