New Who Art Village

Century-old Hakka village as new landmark of local art and culture!

鰲湖藝術村If you want to slow down the pace of life once in a while, Shenzhen New Who Art Village is a good place to go! In this ancient Hakka village with a century-old history, you can visit historical buildings and appreciate the works by artists. And then you can enjoy a delicious lunch before calling it a leisurely and fulfilling day.
鰲湖藝術村The antique Hakka walled village retains many traditional buildings. Old-style surrounded houses and uniform residential clusters can be seen here and there. Some are dated back to the late Qing Dynasty. Each brick or tile has a long story to tell.
鰲湖藝術村Now, many ancient buildings in the village have been turned into studios for nearly 60 artists, mainly local ones. They are engaged in Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, pottery, music, drama, writing, paper cutting, dance, etc. Go and ask if you are allowed to visit.
鰲湖藝術村The village is full of artistic murals or unique sculptures. They are photo hotspots for many people. Taking photos alone can take a whole day.
鰲湖藝術村“Art + Canteen” is run by an artist. It is rebuilt from an old Hakka house to retain the old style and layout. But creativity is added to the dishes. Traditional ingredients such as free-range chicken and vegetables are arranged in an artistic way to give a pleasant surprise.
鰲湖藝術村The New Who Art Festival is held every year to “Influence Community Life with Art”. The art projects include art exhibitions, screenings, dramas, concerts, etc. It is amazing enough to admire modern light and shadow technology and artworks in ancient watchtowers. In one of the previous festivals, artists even placed about 100 old door plates on the facade of the New Who Art Museum and made a new scenic spot in the village. Don’t miss the Festival this year!
